Point Loma, San Diego / Garden design study
Finding the level.
A tricky slope becomes a sequence of useful, planted spaces with a quiet place to gather.

The starting point
A space with
possibility.
The starting point was a slope that was difficult to use and awkward to care for. The brief called for somewhere comfortable to sit, simpler access and planting that suited the exposed position.
The design direction
Broad, shallow terraces break the slope into smaller moments. Pale stone edges define the levels, while silver foliage and loose grasses soften them. A circular gravel terrace holds just enough furniture for a conversation, leaving room for the garden around it.
The design turns the slope into a reason to explore the garden. Each level has a purpose, and the planting ties the changes together.
